Crystal Microdermabrasion

SkinBase crystal microdermabrasion treatment is winner of Best Advanced Treatment 2018 and 2019 at the National Beauty Awards, an intense exfoliating treatment that uses tiny crystals to buff away the very outer layer of skin cells to reveal the fresh, new skin beneath. The microdermabrasion treatment also benefits from a vacuum action which stimulates the micro-circulation and increases blood flow to the treatment area.

The Facial is chemical free and non-invasive yet achieves amazing results revealing younger, healthier looking skin from the very first treatment. The skin’s appearance is further improved through increased collagen & elastin production as your body produces a new layer of skin.

The treatment uses a stream of non-allergenic crystals to remove your skin’s outermost layers of dead cells. Your therapist will use the handset to direct the stream of crystal over the treatment area and, where necessary, target specific zones. The handset then uses a mild suction to draw away the crystal and skin debris to reveal your new and improved complexion. This dual action will both resurface the skin and stimulate the blood flow, encouraging the skin to rejuvenate itself and produce collagen and elastin.

targets a whole multitude of ‘skin sins’. Microdermabrasion treatments can be used for anything from

  • Acne & acne scaring
  • Ageing skin
  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Dull & tired skin
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Stretch marks

Pigmentation & skin blemishes

A one-off facial is amazing for removing dead skin build up to give you that healthy glow, for more problematic skin We recommend a course of 6-8 facials carried out at intervals of 7-10 days. For acne and acne scarring more treatments may be required up to a maximum of 20 in a course.

This allows your skin time to recover but is also close enough together if you are working to improve skin issues. Your therapist can work deeper on the skin with each treatment, but safely and effectively without injury to the skin.

No matter how much you look after your skin, it will still be adversely affected by the environment and the ageing process. A course of Microdermabrasion facials can help to repair damage that has occurred over the years, (accelerated by a decline in collagen production during our late 20s/early 30s. The extent of skin damage will vary, so it stands to reason that to repair some of this damage, a course of treatments will be required.

Yes, microdermabrasion can be used for all skin types on all areas of the body and face.

There is minimal discomfort, the procedure has been compared to the rough lick of a cat’s tongue. Some say it feels like a gritty facial massage, and others say they feel minor tugging on the skin. After the treatment, the skin may feel tight with mild redness. Therefore, it is important that you use a good moisturiser. These effects normally subside within 36 hours of treatment.

Aluminium Oxide is the correct name. These crystals are in fact high purity (99.6%) white aluminium oxide. It is a chemical compound of oxygen and aluminium. Aluminium oxide crystals are used by SkinBase Therapists during a professional microdermabrasion treatment because of its abrasive properties. They are completely safe to use and work with and pose no respiratory risk. It is very unlikely to cause an allergic reaction, but of course, a patch test must always be carried out prior to treatment.

But aluminium is a metal, isn’t it? Yes, aluminium is a metal. Did you know Calcium and Sodium are also metals? But when combined with other elements they become something quite different, and something to eat even! Calcium and oxygen become chalk or marble. Sodium and chlorine become Salt. Aluminium and oxygen become Sapphires, Rubies or Corundum (MD crystals). Aluminium oxide is also used in toothpaste, dental cement and as a dispersing food additive (so we eat it every day!).
